the Adventure,

A Gloucester Treasure!

Welcome!

Built in 1926, the Adventure is a 121 foot 6 inch Grand Banks dory schooner and is a National Historic Landmark.

She was a "highliner", landing nearly $4,000,000 worth of cod and halibut during her 27-year career.

The Adventure is a "knockabout", a design without a bowsprit for the safety of the crew. She was constructed of white oak and yellow pine in Essex, Massachusetts. As a point of reference, her masts are nearly as tall as she is long, about 11 stories high. An exceptionally fast and stable vessel, she represents the ultimate evolution of schooner design.
