Taeping
..one of the most sucessful British tea clippers, was built in 1863 by Robert Steele of
Greenock alongside the equally famous Serica, each of about 770 tons gross. These
two ships, with the Ariel, Fiery Cross, and Taitsin, raced home to London in 1866 with
the first three, The Taeping, Serica, and Ariel, arriving on the same tide in the Thames
after a voyage of 16,000 miles which they accomplished in ninety-nine days.
