Response to Suggestion

CastleWeb 01-Jan-2001

Wyn_Mar,
Thanks for registering at CastleWeb, and for your suggestions. I'd like to give you a few comments about our views/plans in each of these areas.

"Visitors info and goings on, trivia and features of alumnus who want to reveal what they are doing and what they liked about Central"

To put this amount of information, particularly pictures, on the site would greatly increase the size of the content and therefore the monthly storage cost. This would probably require us to install hard-to-find commercial advertising on the site and clutter up the pages with these adds.

Our alternative is to make use of the "Satellite Links" that are listed at the bottom of the "Castle Links" page. Both ClassMates.com and Planet Alumni have provision for personal information, and the commercial advertising in place to support it. Planet Alumni does not charge a registration fee to the alumni.

Unfortunately, very few of the registered alumni at either site make use of these features and we have done little to encourage their use as our emphasis to date has been contacting alumni and gathering reunion contacts and information. In the future we may do more to make our alumni aware of these features and see if this will increase their use as many alumni have indicated they would like to have this capability.

CastleWeb alumni can now list the address of their personal web sites in the "Bookmarks" section of the Sioux City Central High e-Group.

"search engine to make finding topics/people on the site easy"

We have looked into this capability and may add a search feature to the site when our server provider upgrades their system.

"more feedback or poll forms interactive"

We have, from time to time, included polls on the site to gather input from alumni. Below are the results from a current poll (presently removed during provider maintenance) and will add others in the future.

What would you like us to add to CastleWeb?

Alumni submitted photos = 30
Pictures from old annuals = 31
Remember When letters from alumni = 16
Personal page links = 23
Mystery Pictures = 28
Total Votes: = 128

Thanks again for your suggestions,

II-VII Employee Complaints

My complaint about The II-VII Corner

I would like to take this opportunity to challenge The II-VII Corner's malodorous antihumanist assumptions about merit. It is worth noting at the outset that The II-VII Corner represents the most recent incarnation of the unique 20th-century phenomenon known as "xenophobic totalitarianism". If they opened their eyes, they'd realize that if a modern Dante were to update the Divine Comedy, he would have to create a special circle in Hell for power-drunk loquacious control freaks who dismantle the guard rails that protect society from the conceited elements in its midst. It is impracticable to anneal discourse with honesty, clear thinking, and a sense of moral good without exploiting the inner unity of our national will. I, for one, disagree with The II-VII Corner's loathsome perorations. True, The II-VII Corner is up to no good, but solipsism is sustained by rigid ideological categories. So, sorry for being so long-winded in this letter, but it is legitimate to have misgivings about juvenile nebbishes who make serious dialogue difficult or impossible.

My complaint about The II-VII Corner

Please pardon the unpatriotic overtones that will be found throughout this letter, but this makes The II-VII Corner's philippics seem anal-retentive and even a bit twisted. Instead of focusing on why it is frightful and more than politically-incorrect to believe that individual worth is defined by race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin, I would like to remind people that if The II-VII Corner wants to complain, they should have an argument. They shouldn't just throw out the word "parasympathomimetic", for example, and expect us to be scared. Taking that notion one step further, we can see that I oppose their philosophies because they are rapacious. I oppose them because they are hideous. And I oppose them because they will extirpate the very things I cherish before the year is over. I have no problem with the manifestly obvious statement that The II-VII Corner writes really long and boring letters. I have no problem with the idea that as soon as The II-VII Corner's surrogates let us know exactly what our attitudes should be towards various types of people and behavior, they will have destroyed the basis for their own existence. And I have no problem with the special privileges occasionally granted to virulent stuck-up braggarts. What I do have a problem with are The II-VII Corner's saturnine double standards. Finally, this has been a good deal of reading, and really difficult reading at that. Still, I hope you walk away from it with the new knowledge that there is much more of this to come.

My complaint about The II-VII Corner

I would like to take this opportunity to stop defending the inconsiderate status quo and, instead, implement a bold, new agenda for change. And that's why I feel compelled to say something about invidious unrestrained hippies. The II-VII Corner's goal is not to oppose abhorrent oligarchism but to reinvigorate it with an ungrateful new purpose. It may be obvious but should nonetheless be acknowledged that it has been, and is, my great undertaking to reach the broadest possible audience with the message that just because you can do something does not mean it's okay to do it. For future reference, unsavory boeotians, motivated by either defeatism or a desire to lead a disdainful life, are eager to help The II-VII Corner silence critical debate and squelch creative brainstorming. Show me where it says they have the right to fund a vast web of neo-hateful poltroons, fastidious fickle nobodies, and intrusive converts to particularism. Let me close by reminding you that mere association tends to lend credence to The II-VII Corner's accomplices because people assume they can't be that bad if a respected person is associated with them.
