General Assembly

This assembly must have been scheduled for O-Dark-Thirty. Everyone but "Bags" is wiped out.

Alumni Survey

Through the Alumni Survey, we are receiving valuable suggestions, recommendations, and preferences for the design of the CastleWeb Site, from classmates all over the country and abroad. Yours is greatly appreciated! Please visit the CastleWeb often, and continue to share information with other "Ladies and Knights of the School."

Alumni Directory

The Alumni Directory is expected to become the most significant, and most used feature of the site. With the school now closed for over twenty-seven years, and approximately eighty percent of the alumni living outside of Sioux City, it will fill a void that Reunion Committees have been struggling to overcome for years.

We have found that with diligent research effort, e-mail addresses for approximately 50% of the alumni of the average class can be documented. This percentage is expected to grow in coming years as home computer use continues to increase.

Although we obviously do not expect to attain 100% registration at the site, we do expect to come close to that percentage of alumni addresses documented. As you can imagine, if you can contact over 50% of a given class, there is a fairly high probability that someone of that group will know how to contact any given missing classmate.

The Alumni Directory is growing daily, and with continued growth will become an important resource for contacting other alumni, for organizing class reunions, and for other related activities. Please register, and be sure to pass the information about this site on to any alumni or other interested parties. If you have classmates who do not have Internet access, offer to register their address at the site so that the information will be available as they elect.

Remember, you have the option of having only your Class Year, Name, and e-mail Address listed. Other information will be made available only to COHA and to the official Class Reunion Committees. Or, if you prefer, you have the option of also having your address and telephone number listed in the directory.

Site Design

Although under the "too many cooks..." theory, we must control general form and content of the site, this site is for the alumni, and many areas are available for participation of, and input from you:
Class Year specific information will be presented at each "Class of 19XX Home Room." If there is something you would like to have seen at the Home Room, e-mail us the information. We intend to solicit the help of a "Contact Person" for each class year Home Room who will have the primary responsibility of controlling the content of your class pages. Once they are in place, you will all be dealing with a person you know from your own class.

The "Class Reunions" area is available for information distribution through reunion organizing committees.

An "Alumni Directory" is available where you can find a name and e-mail address for someone you wish to contact. Then communicate directly with them.

"Letters to the Editor" is available for presenting your loftier views in a more formal manner.

Our "Soap Box" provides a forum for the fringe element to wax poetic on any subject they choose. Improprieties excepted. The capricious and arbitrary decisions of theEditor are final.

A "Bulletin Board" will be available where you can post open messages of a general nature, or contact missing classmates who are not registered at the site. Surely someone will know how to contact them.

The "Links Page" will direct you to the "Sioux City Central High School Alumni Association eGroup" & Chat Line, where you can post messages, or join in on their evening "chat" session.

CastleWeb Site Issues

Funding for Site Operating Costs

Bet you knew we would get around to this!

More people wanting to send you their credit card, with an extended line of credit
New Kevlar siding, and seamless gutters, for your crack house
Veterans of the battle of Tijuana
The Bull Moose Revival Party candidate running for metro ombudsman for the deranged
Another nifty new kitchen tool you just can't live without
The stock broker from hell

The list goes on and on, with no seeming end of junk mail and phone calls during the dinner hour. Everyone seems to want a piece of your action!

The II-VII Corner quickly decided that if this type of fund-raising were required to operate the site, we would not be involved. We all have enough of this in our lives, and have a hard enough time determining the validity of the worthy charities and other organizations we do wish to support. COHA has assumed an enormous challenge in the preservation of the Castle, and they sure do not need to support us! We need to support them!

So, with all this in mind, The II-VII Corner determined that we would arrange for independent funding to get the CastleWeb Site up and operating. If you have not yet visited our "Site Sponsors" page, please do. If you know of another organization like BATHHL, or II-VII, or a company like Global Index, that would be interested in contributing to the maintenance of this site, their support will be accepted, and appreciated.

But, we will not be soliciting funds from individual alumni for this site.

However, we will be searching for a limited number of commercial sponsors that provide products and services that we feel might be of value to those who visit this site. We will provide links on our pages to their organizations, and urge you to make use of them whenever you have a need, if their product is of value to you, rather than obtaining it elsewhere.

If we all support these sponsors when we have a need for their product, then the volume of our use will turn a small sales commission, which we will negotiate, into a significant support in helping to defray the expense of site operation.

Like this approach better than another call during dinner? Let us know.

Abraham Lincoln Returns !

Over the Holidays, a major event occurred at the Castle. The statueof Abe Lincoln was returned to its location in the front hallway of the Castle. The statue had been placed in a storage facility some time ago to protect it from water damage caused by the leaking roof of the building. Now that the roof has been repaired, COHA has returned Abe to his pedestal.
Abe arrived at the Castle in an open-air limousine. [Note the reflection of the Castle on the truck]

Abe relaxes while the hardy crew of COHA volunteers tries to figure out how they are going to get him up the stairway. [And then get home in time to watch the game.]

After the stairway, all the guys were exhausted so COHA Director Bev (Frazier) Kolbe '59 picked up Abe and set him on his pedestal. [OK, I lied about this part.]
Note the water damage on the ceiling from the years of leaky roof problems.

The complete story on Abe's return to the Castle was published in the 1st Quarter, 2000 issue of COHA's newsletter, Castle Report.
