Pictured from left to right: Tammy Barrett, co-owner of NuStyle, Dale McKinney, owner of Invision Architecture, Don Jensen, president of COHA, and Marty Dougherty, member of the Sioux City Council. Not pictured Todd Heistand, co-owner of NuStyle. Attendance at the event was by invitation only. A number of contractors were invited to hear what NuStyle has planned for the Castle. Tammy Barrett gave a brief history of what has taken place over the past two and one half years. She also told the audience why they were interested in saving the Castle. Tammy's brother, Todd also contributed to the discussion. Marty Dougherty shared how the Sioux City council will be involved. Don Jensen, president of COHA expressed how board members were excited that NuStyle decided to restore the Castle. Saturday, June 11, COHA sponsored a tour for those who could not attend on Friday. The building was opened from 10 am to 2 pm. This would be the last opportunity for people to view the Castle before construction. |
Garage door to be main entrance to Castle
Pictured above is the garage entry as it looks today. When the apartment complex is completed, this will be completely remodeled to become the main entrance to the building. A new 3500-pound elevator will be installed at the rear of the garage entry. Being on the ground floor, this makes the elevator handicap accessible. Other features to be included in the building will be a slip card to gain entrance to the outside doors. This prevents any unauthorized person from entering the building. Two story loft apartments will be constructed on the third floor, north side, which housed the former science rooms. Living quarters will be on the third floor with bedrooms above where the clubrooms were located. |
Preperations for Construction
NuStyle Construction Company is ready to use the yellow trash chute to funnel all the debris from fourth and third floor rooms on the south side of the building.
This trash chute is located on the north side of the building next to the garage entrance. A demo crew is at work to remove all debris.
NuStyle Construction employees look over plans for apartments. Bob Heffernan and his brother Jim are studying plans provided by architect Dale McKinney. Bob is the site superintendent while his brother works with him during the construction period. Bob has been doing this type of work for 15 years. Their job is to work with the different contractors getting bids and overseeing the work that is being done. The completion of the apartments is set for late September of 2003. |
Gift Shop NewsGift Shop was required to move out of the building a year ago. Shirley McCleod has opened the gift shop in her home. If you need assistance call Shirley - or e-mail at snuthouse6@aol.com |
